2024 Storm Clean Up

On Wednesday, March 27th, over 30 members of the Friends of Reid State Park volunteered at the park to help the staff continue the clean up and restoration process resulting from this winter's storms. The work was done in two shifts and focused on East Beach and the Pavilion area, the marsh leading to the bridge to Griffith Head and along the roadside before the bridge. Refreshments, with many homemade treats donated by local residents, were provided for the volunteers. They were very well received and appreciated after a hard days work.

On Saturday, May 5th, the FRSP hosted another volunteer work day. We had 36 hard working folks come out over two shifts to clean up the area at Griffith's Head. We had volunteers ages 6-80 something on this dedicated crew. Over 20 truckloads of debris were taken out of the picnic areas, lagoon and along the coastline. Five local bakers, led by Kathy Smith, provided homemade treats for the crew.

On Monday, June 17th the FRSP had over 20 volunteers who came out to help. Under the supervision of Haylee Parsons, Park Manager, and several of her staff, we removed an enormous amount of stones, logs, sticks, brush, seaweed, and a variety of manmade flotsam. While we made a lot of progress, there is a long way to go to get all the detritus removed and areas to be rebuilt. Homemade cookies, blueberry cake, muffins, and more gave us a respite and the energy to continue. It was very challenging work with some of the stones weighing over 50 pounds!

We appreciated the community spirit working to bring the park back to life.
Thank you to everyone who came out to support the park.
